Tortoises To represent the slow tortoises, the author uses the vivacious music of another composer, the Khan Khan of Jacques Offenbach . Naturally the poor tortoises, even with all their willingness, do not manage to move so quickly, that is why Saint Saëns shapes the rhythm to their possibility (slow, very slow). The movement, rapid and cheerful in the original, certainly becomes awkward and heavy but very comical and funny, and describes in a very effective way the tiring walk of the tortoises! |
