Pianists

Saint-Saëns with this amusing piece wants to make fun of pianists, who are forced to spend long hours in very tedious technical exercises. 

Here's the poetry which gave to the musician the idea to describe these “animals”:
Of all the animals the pianist is the worst
species and plays every hour;
if moreover he does it in an awful kind,
nobody removes from him the reputation of... dog.
