The Piano
The piano is a musical instrument which produces the sound by cords which are struck by hammers actuated by a keyboard. So it belongs to the cordophones with struck cords. The origin of the word piano is Italian (Bartolomeo Cristofori) and is referred to the possibility that the instrument offers to sound notes with different intensities according to the touch, i.e. to the force applied by the fingers of the pianist to the keys. The preceding instruments, for example the harpsichord, did not have this possibility. Even by the pedals, which actuate particular mechanisms, the player can modify the sound.
