Characters with long Ears Both violins alternate in the imitation of the bray of the donkeys. The piece clearly reproduces the cry of these animals by acute notes followed by low notes, to simulate as well as possible the characteristic “hee-haw”. The title of the piece, “Characters with Long Ears”, however, refers even to the musical critics of times, rather pretentious and little prepared . |
